Mama Fact of the Day

37 weeks - My energy levels are really high this week... things seem to be on the move, albeit slowly! I believe I had a 'show' earlier in the week.
I have seen the midwife, everything is normal and she says the baby is 2-3/5 engaged. This means 2-3/5 of the babies head is engaged in my pelvis.

Fetal Fact of the Day

37 weeks - "Huge news this week: You're carrying a full-term baby! If you were to go into labour today, all systems would be a go. Woohoo!

Baby's growth slows down dramatically this week, which is great news for your birth canal. His bones are still soft and pliable and will solidify after he's born. More great news for your birth canal.

So if he's all cooked and ready to go, what the heck is he still doing in there?! He's busy practicing for "life on the outside," working on his breathing, sucking, sleeping, gazing and peeing abilities. The only thing he can't practice yet is his ability to scream at the top of his lungs when he's hungry—but he'll do plenty of that in a few weeks.

At this point babies vary in size, but the average length is between 19 and 20 inches and most babies weigh approximately 6 pounds."

Mama Fact of the Day

36 weeks - I can't remember if I've mentioned my cravings yet on this blog but they have pretty much remained the same the whole way through...
Ice:
I just can't get enough, and can crunch my way through a few kilograms every week!
Paint Stripper (turps, white spirit, petrol, etc):
Not healthy but nothing beats a good whiff!

I also moved home to my parents this week, from Brighton. Always hate moving but not too stressful this time and it's good to be home!

Fetal Fact of the Day

36 weeks - Baby is gradually dropping. This is called lightening or engagement, and my lungs and stomach will finally get a chance to stretch out a little - breathing and eating should become easier... However, walking is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and I constantly need the toilet!

Mama Fact of the Day

35 weeks - "Your baby has pretty much taken over your entire torso by now. Over the past few months, he's squished and mushed all of your organs out of the way. Any day now, he'll make a final move and shove your heart up and to the left to make more room for himself. (See, he's got your heart in his hands already.)

Before all this pregnancy stuff, your uterus was a small ball the size of your fist and was tucked neatly away behind your pelvis. Today your uterus is the size of a small watermelon and reaches all the way up to your ribs.

At this point in your pregnancy all the blood has gone to your belly ... literally. Nearly 1/6 of your body's total blood volume is chugging around in the vessels in your uterus. So that's why you feel so lightheaded all the time!"

Fetal Fact of the Day

35 weeks - This week, my little one is now sporting fingernails and has a fully developed pair of kidneys. Babys liver can also process some waste products.

There's much less amniotic fluid and much more baby in my uterus, which has expanded to a thousand times its original size!!!

Quote of the Day

You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

Fetal Fact of the Day

34 weeks - Baby now weighs more than 4.7lbs/2.2kgs and is around 18"/45cms from top to toe. Baby is filling out and getting rounder as it needs these fat layers later to regulate body temperature.

Babies hearing is now fully developed too so when I get a quiet moment I can talk to baby!
