Mama Fact of the Day

My blood volume increases again this week. This is one of the biggest physiological changes I will experience during pregnancy and by the time I reach full term it will have increased up to a staggering 50% (I find this utterly amazing!).

The increase is needed for extra blood flow to the uterus, to meet the metabolic needs of baby and to help my vital organs (in particular the kidneys which will grow in length by an average of 1 – 1.5cm), which are working harder than ever.

Fetal Fact of the Day

I am now 28 weeks, crikey!

Eye Eye...

My baby's eyes are partially open now and can blink. Baby has also begun having rapid eye movement.

It's eyes have colour now, too. It may not be the colour he/she ultimately ends up with, especially if they're light gray or blue. The eyes typically don't settle on a final hue until nine months after baby is born.

Finally, baby is downright chubby compared to a few weeks ago, measuring around 15in long and weighing in at 2-3lbs!

Quote of the Day

"A daughter is a mother's gender partner, her closest ally in the family confederacy, an extension of her self. And mothers are their daughters' role model, their biological and emotional road map, the arbiter of all their relationships."
